Hello and welcome to the 2022 Annual Report of the Wakehurst Football Club Inc. (WFC).

What is most important to me and the WFC Committee is that we provide a safe, fair & inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy participating in football and developing their football skills.

After two years of COVID-19 we were hopeful that we would have a complete season in 2022.  Alas, La Niña arrived and delivered the highest rainfall in Sydney for 160 years.

Even with games lost to the weather I hope that you enjoyed your football in 2022 in this the Club’s 55th season playing in the Manly Warringah Football Association (MWFA).

For the first time in three years the MWFA was able to hold the Final Days at Cromer.  WFC teams put on an amazing performance winning twelve of the thirteen Finals we contested.

Congratulations to the W13/2, WU14/1, WU18/3, U13/3, U14/3, O35/1 and O35/A teams who won their leagues.

Our WU14/1 team had a fabulous year winning their league, their Grand Final and making it to the quarter finals of the Champion of Champions.

This season we had 1,670 players in 127 teams making 2022 a new record year for Wakehurst FC in terms of both the number of players and the number of teams.

We completed a new storage area at the rear of the Hews Parade facility, and we will shortly modernise the main meeting space in the Hews clubhouse.

This season we again engaged Football Development Australia to assist with grading, to run our Junior Development Program, to provide coaches for 1st Division teams and to run player & coach training sessions.  The Committee will again review each of these programs before deciding what programs will be offered next season.

Our 3rd season of Summer Football competition at Lionel Watts was another huge success and we completed a full season of sixteen rounds.

This year our Summer Football competition has 2,010 players in 232 teams which is a huge increase from the 1,060 players in 131 teams we had 2019.

The popularity of our Summer Football is testament to the quality of our facility and to the fantastic organisation of our competition.

David Brennan does an incredible job of organising teams and producing a draw each week that seeks to ensure all games are competitive.

That everyone receives the correct playing strip is thanks to the hard work and dedication of Rachelle Sorbara and Jodie Kenny.

Successfully running a club of our size, with nearly 1,700 players in our Winter competition, over 2,000 players in our Summer competitions and over 300 coaches & managers requires a huge effort.

We are very fortunate to have a group of volunteers on our Committee who commit countless hours to ensuring that WFC is a very well run and successful club.

My sincerest thanks go to everyone on our committee who make it all possible and who are a pleasure to work with.  I would especially like to acknowledge the incredible ladies on our Committee would do such a fantastic job of organising our Club:-

  • Joyce Taylor – Registrar
  • Bernadette Benjamin – VP Sub-Juniors
  • Zoe Topham – VP Juniors
  • Rachelle Sorbara – VP Girls
  • Jodie Kenny – VP Support & Social Media
