Wakehurst FC Development Programs

For players’ wanting to reach their full football potential Wakehurst FC (WFC) is again offering a range of development programs. Last year, WFC engaged the services of Football Development Australia Pty. Ltd. (FDA) to assist in the delivery of our Junior Development Program and our coach education programs.

The primary purpose of these programs is to develop the technical skills of WFC players’ in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment.

The key elements that WFC, in conjunction with FDA, will bring to the programs are a:

    • Commitment to the long-term development of players’ and teams;
    • Consistency of coaching and session structures across age groups; and
    • Proven track record in developing successful junior and youth players’ and teams

All training programs will align completely with Football Federation Australia’s National Football Curriculum. These programs are only available to players’ registered with WFC for the 2022 season.


  1. Mixed U9–U13 & WU10-WU16 Junior Development Program

Players’ who demonstrate an ability to play in the top teams of each age group will be offered a place in the Junior Development Program. The Junior Development Program will run on Monday afternoon and evenings at Lionel Watts, starting on Monday 28th March and will run at the following times:

  • Mixed U8          4.30 – 5.30 pm
  • Mixed U9          4.30 – 5.30 pm
  • Mixed U10        5.30 – 6.30 pm
  • Mixed U11        5.30 – 6.30 pm
  • Mixed U12        6.30 – 8.00 pm
  • Mixed U13        6.30 – 8.00 pm
  • Girls U10/11      4.30 – 5.30 pm
  • Girls U12/13     5.30 – 6.30 pm
  • Girls U14/16     6.30 – 8.00 pm

WFC and FDA coaches’ have assessed players’ during grading sessions to determine which players’ will be offered places in the development programs. These players were confirmed on 1st March alongside the team announcements. There will be approximately twenty players’ in the Junior Development Program for each age group. These programs are additional to a player’s normal weekly team training session. 

The cost to participate in this program is $250 per player for the full 22 week season.  Each player will receive a Junior Development Program training shirt.


  1. Team Training / Coach Development U9–U13 Teams

The top team in each U9–U13 age group will have an FDA coach who will run the weekly training session and the team on match day.  The cost of this will be $120 per player for the season. Each team will need a parent Team Manager to perform the usual team management and team communication tasks. Training will take place at Ararat Reserve on Wednesdays at the following times:

  • Mixed U9                    4.30 – 5.30 pm
  • Mixed U10 & U11       5.30 – 6.30 pm
  • Mixed U12 & U13       6.30 – 7.45 pm


  1. Skills Clinics for Teams

These clinics will focus on team development including, first touch, passing, receiving, heading, 1 vs 1 defending, shielding, 1 vs 1 attacking for all teams that are not involved in the Monday night Development Program.

These clinics will be held at Ararat Reserve on Wednesday nights and are run by FDA coaches’. Teams will be given the opportunity throughout the season to attend these clinics. The start date and times for these will be announced shortly. There is no cost to attend these clinics.


  1. Goalkeeper Training

Goalkeeper training will be run at Lionel Watts on Monday nights and is open to all players. FDA will provide a specialist Goalkeeper Coach for these sessions. The sessions start date and time will be announced shortly. These sessions are open to all goalkeepers and there is no cost to attend.
