Coaches Development Program

WFC values and acknowledges the time and effort required to coach a team. We are committed to fostering an environment where our coaches feel supported and have ongoing opportunities to grow and develop in their coaching journey.

In 2025, WFC, in partnership with Elite Football (founded by Ivan Jolic, former Matildas Assistant Coach and current assistant coach of the China Women’s National Team) will offer the following programs to support and enhance the skills of our coaches. All of these programs will be funded by Wakehurst FC.

Ivan’s background includes time as a Skill Acquisition Specialist for the FFA and assistant coaching roles at Melbourne City and the Central Coast Mariners. As a qualified FFA/AFC Coach Education instructor, Ivan has delivered and instructed FFA C, B and A Licences for over a decade. Ivan has continued his passion for youth and women’s development and we are excited to have him working with us at WFC in 2026.

The offering will involve:

  • Volunteering – Expressions of interest in February 2026 from students (WFC players) completing volunteering hours (e.g. Duke of Edinburgh, Scouts and Guides, etc.) to support them with assistant coaching opportunities with one of our experienced coaches. The club will support the spirit and purpose of these opportunities by helping each individual in fulfilling these requirements including feedback and record keeping. Refer to the NSW Government website for futher information: https://www.nsw.gov.au/community-services/volunteering/volunteer-now/volunteering-for-students-and-young-people
  • Coach Education Pathways – WFC will seek to identify two coaches (one from the Mixed Program and one from the Womens Program) for a pilot program of focused support moving through the coach development pathways of Football NSW (i.e. MiniRoos, Foundations of Football, and C-Diploma) aligned with their academic goals (e.g. PDHPE K-12, Sports Science, ACPE Football Courses). This may include financial support for the courses in exchange for volunteering with the U6-U9 playing groups, discounted registration (reimbursement), or commitment to paid hours of work experience at the relevant award to support the work of the Committee and/or Coach Development (subject to approval by the Committee).

In addition to the offerings from Wakehurst FC, the MWFA provides a variety of excellent courses for coaches, covering a wide range of levels and skill areas. We strongly encourage all coaches to take advantage of these opportunities and attend these sessions as they are scheduled throughout the season.
